Liège, 6 March 2026

The arrival of the first train of cars from the Hödlmayr Group marks the resumption of rail traffic at Liège Trilogiport

The first train of cars from the Hödlmayr Group, one of Europe's leading automotive logistics companies, arrived on Wednesday 4 March at the container terminal of the Liège Trilogiport multimodal platform, managed by Novandi.  Coming from Trnava in Slovakia, this double-decker train, nearly 651 metres long, unloaded 277 vehicles directly onto the terminal platform. This important milestone marks the resumption of rail traffic at Liège Trilogiport, one of the 33 areas managed by the Port of Liège. Beyond this arrival, it also marks the launch of regular rail traffic, with one train per week expected at the site from March 2026. This new link demonstrates Liège Trilogiport's capacity to accommodate trains and also confirms the relevance of the modal shift to rail and waterways. The reopening of the railway line to Liège Trilogiport is a crucial part of the Port of Liège's strategic vision. Over the past year, the Port of Liège has been working with the Wallonia Public Service, Infrabel and Novandi to enable trains to return to Liège Trilogiport and make this railway line operational again.

A concrete demonstration of the site's multimodality
This regular service fully illustrates the purpose of Liège Trilogiport: a logistics zone that optimally combines waterways, rail and road. Located at the heart of European corridors, the platform enables flows to be managed while significantly reducing the carbon footprint of transport. Each train of vehicles represents the equivalent of 40 lorries removed from our roads, depending on the capacity of the convoy. With one train per week, this means that more than 2,000 trucks per year can be avoided, contributing to smoother road traffic and reduced CO₂ emissions.
Thanks to this development, Liège Trilogiport now offers a complete range of logistics solutions, with rail transport providing an important and complementary alternative to river traffic. This has a positive impact on mobility and strengthens the role of the port of Liège as a key logistics hub in Wallonia.

Yves Demeffe, Managing Director of the Port Authority of Liège: ‘The launch of this new connection marks a new stage in our development. The confidence placed in us by Stellantis underlines the growing attractiveness of Liège Trilogiport as a leading multimodal logistics hub.’

Olivier Hia, General Manager – Intermodal at Novandi: "This collaboration perfectly illustrates our desire to offer reliable, competitive and customer-oriented rail solutions geared towards the sustainable transition of freight transport. We are delighted to be involved in this important step for the Liège Trilogiport platform and to continue supporting modal shift.”
