Stable traffic in 2025 for Liege Port Authority

In 2025,  Liege Port Authority  recorded total traffic of 16.4 million tonnes across all modes (waterway, road and rail), a level that remained stable compared with 2024 despite an uncertain international economic climate.

Waterway traffic accounted for 12.5 million tonnes in 2025, a volume almost identical to that recorded the previous year. This stability represents a solid performance in a global economic environment that remains volatile. Several segments are growing, notably metals (+13%), agricultural products (+12%) and chemicals (+10%), offsetting the decline seen in secondary raw materials, coal and wood products.

Container traffic, however, continues to decline, with 76,352 TEUs, a 7% year-on-year decrease. According to the operator of the Liège Trilogiport platform, this trend is linked in particular to the global economic slowdown, rising US customs duties and competition from other modes of transport and logistics platforms.

The Liège Trilogiport multimodal hub is now fully operational, with over 313,000 m² of logistics warehouses dedicated to the storage and handling of goods.

Today, 97% of the port land managed by the Port of Liège is under concession. Thanks to the public nature of its quays, the Port of Liège, which is always on the lookout for new port land, continues to meet the growing demand from businesses wishing to use waterways on an ad hoc basis, particularly for construction projects and specific logistics operations.

A vision always looking to the future

The Port of Liège continued its modernisation in 2025 by investing continuously in its port infrastructure. These modernisation and maintenance works will continue in 2026.

With 27 kilometres of quays, 382 hectares of port area and more than 120 businesses generating over 18,000 direct and indirect jobs, the Port of Liège is cementing its role as a major logistics hub at the heart of Europe and as an economic driver for the Liège region.
