Belgian seaports and inland ports, including the Autonomous Port of Liège,
launch the ‘Port 2 Port Security’ platform for integrated port security

On 21 November 2025, Belgium's seaports and inland ports, including the Autonomous Port of Liège, launched the “Port 2 Port Security” platform in collaboration with the National Drugs Commission: a model for collaboration in knowledge sharing and the development of common security measures. The partners share a common vision: to strengthen the security of the Belgian port network in the face of current threats (drug trafficking, cyberattacks and the illegal use of drones).

Individual efforts towards shared capacity

Thanks to the “Port 2 Port Security” platform, the approach is evolving from individual initiatives to a coordinated strategy. By joining this collective platform, the Autonomous Port of Liège is contributing to the ambitions of its partners Port of Antwerp-Bruges, North Sea Port, CSD Limburg, the inland ports of Brussels and Ostend, the National Drugs Commission and the waterway managers in Flanders. This dynamic is a European first, bringing together for the first time all the seaports and inland ports of a single country in a harmonised approach to security.

This initiative confirms Belgium's pioneering role in integrated port security.

This initiative confirms Belgium's pioneering role in integrated port security. The fact that all ports and waterways in a single country are acting together at a strategic and operational level is a first in Europe. The Federal Minister for Justice and the North Sea, Annelies Verlinden, took part in the official launch of the platform on 21 November 2025.

According to Mr Demeffe, Acting Director General of the Autonomous Port of Liège: "The creation of the “Port 2 Port Security” platform is a major step forward for the entire Belgian port community. For the Port of Liège, this collaboration is an essential lever for protecting our port infrastructure, our businesses and our strategic role in the hinterland. Securing our ports also means protecting our economy, our territories and our citizens. The Autonomous Port of Liège is delighted to be actively contributing to this collective effort."

Communication to enhance security

The Port 2 Port Security platform is a model of operational collaboration, combining practical experience and innovation. From now on, ports will regularly share their knowledge on inspections, access control, security checks, drones and AI camera surveillance, among other things. They are also strengthening a common culture of security through joint training and awareness-raising activities.

The platform complements existing national and local ISPS authorities and enables cross-functional collaboration between ports. Mutual trust is essential in this context: security is a collective responsibility.
