Ports and logistics resilience: a central role for the future of Europe

The Port of Liège participated in the Innovation Conference 2025, organised on 21 October by AHK Debelux (Belgian-German-Luxembourg Chamber of Commerce) in Liège. This event, enhanced by the presence of H.E. Martin Kotthaus, German Ambassador to Belgium, and H.E. Jean-Louis Thill, Luxembourg Ambassador to Belgium, brought together numerous business leaders and researchers from Belgium, Germany and Luxembourg.

During this round table discussion on port resilience, which included Philippe Beaujean (Port of Antwerp-Bruges) and Gilles Braquet (CEO of Luxport-Group), we highlighted our vision of a forward-looking port, where innovation, multimodality and inter-port cooperation become pillars of competitiveness.

Our three countries (Belgium, Germany and Luxembourg) are home to leading sea and river ports that are essential supply centres for European industry.

In a global context marked by energy transition and geopolitical tensions, our strategy is based on:

The development of multimodal platforms (water, rail, road) in Liège Trilogiport, Renory and Monsin;
- Close cooperation with the Port of Antwerp-Bruges for many years;

- Diversification of customers and logistics flows to enhance stability;
- Support for the energy transition;
-And digitalisation to ensure traceability and efficiency.
Today more than ever, inland waterways and rail are no longer just environmentally friendly solutions, but strategic drivers of resilience.

We would like to thank AHK Debelux for this initiative and the other participants for these discussions!
