The Port of Liège and Euroports Inland Terminals (EIT) sign a 30-year concession agreement for the Clermont-sous-Huy port area (Engis)
The Port of Liège and Euroports Inland Terminals signed a 30-year concession agreement on 15 September 2026 for the Clermont-sous-Huy port area (Engis), marking a new milestone in the development of port infrastructure and multimodality in Liège.
This concession covers the strategically located strip of land between the quay along the Meuse and the sites operated by Euroports Inland Terminals. This recently developed area offers new opportunities for the development of logistics and multimodal activities. Fully funded by the Wallonia Public Service for Mobility and Infrastructure, the quay demonstrates the Walloon Region’s commitment to the development of port infrastructure. Thanks to the transfer of the management of this quay by Wallonia to the Port of Liège, the Liège port area is also expanding. The Port of Liège now manages 34 port areas located along the Meuse and the Albert Canal in the Liège region, covering more than 380 hectares of land made available to businesses.
The Port of Liège is thus reaffirming its commitment to efficient, sustainable port infrastructure that supports the region’s economic development.
This signing marks an important step in the development of Euroports Inland Terminals’ new 3R-Port Engis multimodal logistics hub, the operator of this new multimodal area.
Euroports Inland Terminals’ project provides for the development of several terminals across the entire site. In the long term, the investments are expected to create around 15 jobs and enable the annual transport of several hundred thousand tonnes of goods by waterway.
Inaugurated in May 2026, the first terminal, located along the Meuse on approximately 3.5 hectares, currently comprises 15,000 m² of warehouse space and a container platform. It is dedicated in particular to the handling of heavy metals, recyclable materials and mineral materials, in bulk, packaged and containerised form.
The second phase, expected in the fourth quarter of 2027, will focus in particular on the storage and handling of road de-icing salt.
Beyond its economic benefits, the project contributes to the redevelopment of a former industrial brownfield site and to strengthening the modal shift towards inland waterways. It therefore offers regional businesses logistics solutions connected to the Meuse, helping to reduce the number of trucks on the roads.
The terminal also incorporates several environmental facilities (a dust extraction and filtration system, a photovoltaic installation, etc.).

“Inland waterway terminals are at the heart of the Port of Liège’s development strategy. Our role is to develop land located along waterways and allocate it to companies that commit to using inland waterways and/or rail. In this way, we promote modal shift and contribute to more sustainable logistics. The Clermont-sous-Huy concession, located along the Meuse, fully reflects this ambition and illustrates our determination to make every port area a driver of economic and environmental development for the Liège region.”
