Liege Port Authority launches a call for proposals for the concession of a port site located on the Liège Trilogiport multimodal platform, along the Albert Canal in Hermalle-sous-Argenteau.

This opportunity is open to companies interested in developing value-added activities.

With this call for proposals, Liege Port Authority is offering the last available site at Liège Trilogiport, confirming the attractiveness and success of this multimodal platform’s development.

Located along the Albert Canal—one of Belgium’s main inland waterways connecting Liège to Antwerp in a 14-hour voyage—this site benefits from direct access to the waterway. This prime location offers future concessionaires an ideal environment to develop transportation, logistics, and/or production activities that incorporate the principles of sustainable mobility.

Desired Business Activities

Liege Port Authority  seeks to attract companies whose activities will contribute to the region’s economic development and to strengthening the multimodal focus of the Liège Trilogiport platform.

Projects must, in particular, meet the following criteria:

• develop an activity related to waterways and/or rail, excluding container handling via these two transport modes;
• be compatible with the proximity of logistics companies already established on the site;
• generate added value for the goods being transported.

The projected number of jobs and the amount of investment committed to the site will also be taken into consideration.

Characteristics of the Immediately Available Port Land

The proposed port land has the following characteristics:

• a total area of approximately 32,146 m², of which 27,788 m² is usable;
• an additional area of 4,358 m², located between the railroad tracks, made available free of charge provided the concessionaire maintains it;
• a straight pier with a usable length of 210 meters;
• a depth of 3.40 meters;
• immediate availability. 

Access – Site Operational Constraints

The port site covered by this call for projects has a unique layout and specific site characteristics. It is landlocked between the waterway (the Albert Canal), which can be used directly for riverine activities, and a rail infrastructure. This location provides direct access to the river network, which is the preferred mode of transport for the site.

Although rail access is available, it is not a priority given the constraints of the site’s configuration. Its use remains a possibility, however, provided it is compatible with the site’s technical characteristics.

There is currently no road access to this site. The operator must provide this road access, taking into account the site’s technical specifications.

Bulk handling activities may be considered, provided they involve exclusively packaged bulk materials (big bags, sacks, or any other suitable packaging). In accordance with the Liège Trilogiport urban planning charter, this requirement aims to prevent any risk of volatile substances, dust, or particles being dispersed into the port environment and to ensure the preservation of the quality of the facilities and the surrounding areas.

Applicants must demonstrate that their project is compatible with these accessibility constraints and that it implements the necessary measures to ensure operations that comply with environmental requirements and the site’s operating conditions.

Concession Terms

The main applicable fees are as follows:

• occupancy fee: €0.6073 (excluding VAT) per year per square meter;
• fee based on the tonnage handled, in accordance with the port fee schedule in effect at the time of collection;
• application of the specific indexation coefficient of Liege Port Authority (x1.9665 in 2026) as well as 21% VAT.

Submission of Applications

Interested companies are invited to submit their proposals demonstrating the relevance of their project to the development objectives of Liege Port Authority. 

Applications must be submitted no later than October 31, 2026.
