Moving to the port of Liege

1. The concession contract

• from 10 to 30 years;
• investments to be made on the concessioned site;
• annual tonnage to be guaranteed by waterway:
• 400 t/mct of quay/year for general cargo and scrap;
• 750 t/mct of quay/year for bulk (coals, sands, ores,...);
• 600 t/mct of quay/year for mixed operations.

2. Precarious authorisation

• occupation for an indefinite period, generally short (6 months, 1 year, 2 years, ...);
• notification, on both sides: 1 month;
• no heavy investment;

3. Authorisation for isolated operations

• authorisation for one or more loading/unloading or other port operations (grouping/unbundling, storage);
  revocable, very limited duration.
• For certain types of loading (particularly heavy and/or indivisible pieces), additional technical information will be sent to the Liege Port Authority at least 10 days before the date of the operation. Please find attached the loading-unloading authorisation form

Notes

• Any construction or fixed installation must be authorised by the port;
• Urbanism, fire service, commodo / incommodo at the expense of the customer/user.

Transhipment requests

In order to ensure the smooth operation of port activities, the procedure for transshipment requests is as follows:

The only point of contact for transshipment requests is the economic service of the Port of Liège (Ms. Anne-Sylvie LONNOY - [email protected]) or the management secretariat of the Port of Liège ([email protected]) in case of absence of the economic service agent.

These requests must be submitted to the Port of Liège at least ten (10) working days before the operation date via the above-mentioned form, so that the Walloon Public Service can verify the technical feasibility of the operations.

The request must also include:

• A Google view of the quay to be used and its name;
• The type of items being transported, their number, and the weight of the heaviest item;
• The lifting plan;
• Any other useful information for the technical review of the request (handling equipment characteristics, transshipment procedures, etc.)

In addition to the authorization from the Port of Liège, which is granted after the Walloon Public Service’s validation, it is your responsibility to obtain all necessary permits and authorizations for the transshipment operation.

It is essential that the Port of Liège has only one contact person per transshipment request.

Due to the number of requests and the involvement of multiple services, if this procedure is not followed, the Port of Liège cannot guarantee the processing of the request.

Finally, please note that in addition to port fees, a file opening fee of 75 euros will be charged for each transshipment request.
