On the international front

The Liege Port Authority's international dimension is reflected in the various agreements and partnerships that have been signed.

The Liege Port Authority has also signed the "Dipcity " (development of inland ports as a sustainable tool for the city) agreement with the ports of Paris, Brussels and Lille. Concluded under the European Union's Interreg IIIB programme, the project is designed to take the opportunity during various round tables to investigate five current themes based on the major challenges now facing urban ports.

These five themes are :

  • promoting economic viability and the carriage of waste by waterway ;
  • multimodality (transport of goods by rail, road and water ) and the role ports play in urban distribution ;
  • the port security issue ;
  • improving the environment ;
  • incorporating the port area into the urban environment.

It should be stressed here that the Liege Port Authority is also a member of various international associations, including:

  • European Federation of Inland Ports (EFIP);
  • International Association of Cities and Ports (IACP);
  • Debelux (Belgo-Luxembourg-German Chamber of Commerce);
  • Fonds de la Batellerie Rhénane Belge (Belgo-Rhine Inland Navigation Fund);
  • FERRMED (Great Axis Network. Located in Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany);
  • International Navigation Association (PIANC);
  • French Chamber of Commerce of Liège and Luxembourg
